We’re not married! Well, we’re business married but not married married.
Weddings, corporate events, film premieres, birthday parties, art openings, after-parties, pool parties, in-store brand events – Tony once DJed a runway event for a dog fashion show and Aubrey toured with and opened for Ke$ha. We have experience playing at pretty much any type of event where you’d find a DJ. And we greatly value the musical demands placed by this diversity of event type. It keeps us sharp and constantly looking for fresh music in a variety of genres. See a partial list of our clients here.
Yes! We do MC the event and there will be a Shure wireless microphone available for you and your guests for toasts, announcements, etc.
We MC Lite. We don’t adopt a persona or slip into a cheesy DJ voice that overwhelms the space. We won’t take the center of the floor and do an “ice-breaker” or make the guests play games and then teach them a dance. We believe that, in general, parties find their flow with less interruption. Our job as MC is to make sure that each section of the program connects so that the event flows seamlessly. So the only time you’ll hear us on the mic is when you need us to be.
We’re collaborative open-format DJs which means we mix a variety of genres, taking into account the musical aesthetic of our clients. We couple our experience with those requests and then mix everything live so that the response of the people assembled that night also has an influence on the playlist. We blend and beatmatch, tease and redrum, utilizing the creative tools at our disposal to heighten a song without changing its’ DNA.
Though Tony has been threatening to craft a DJ helmet shaped like a slice of pizza, for now we just aim to dress nice / hip / in-line with the vibe of the event and location. Aubrey always looks great at events and Tony lets his wife dress him and she’s very stylish.
Yes! We’ve traveled as far as China to play events and recently played gigs in California, Hawaii, Montana, and Mexico. There are obviously logistics in terms of travel and equipment that need to be ironed out prior to our performance but we’re always willing to travel to wherever the party is.
Luckily, The Get Down has a built-in back-up in that we DJ as a duo. If we’re double booked on the date, we’ll secure an emergency back-up that has plenty of DJ experience so that if the unthinkable happens, the party can still go on. We test our gear regularly, but we’ll also have back-up equipment on hand so that if something malfunctions, it can be swapped out quickly.
Thank you for asking, hypothetical person. While it is true that you can almost always find a cheaper DJ or enlist your brother-in-law to DJ for free since he did a pretty good job at that tailgate that one summer… in general, a DJ’s price point is representative of how in-demand they are. And that demand directly correlates to their skill, reputation, creativity, and overall client satisfaction. Less expensive DJs usually have to sacrifice quality of sound equipment or carrying insurance in order to perform at those rates. Or they are hobbyists who have jobs outside of DJing. We are lucky enough to DJ full time which gives us the freedom to customize your event to suit your musical tastes while paying special attention to any run-of-show demands for your particular event. We’re also allowed time to come up with unique, creative mixes for the event, which results in bigger dancefloors and an overall higher level of service.
Either Tony or Aubrey will be your lead DJ for the event. That’s your main point of contact as well as your creative hub and the keeper of all things “your party.” If the other DJ who isn’t your lead doesn’t get booked for another gig on your date, they will attend and co-DJ your event at no additional cost. We often have clients who really want to ensure that both of us will be there and there is an option to book us as a duo as well.
Yes – our base rate includes a full QSC sound system which includes two QSC K12s and a QSC KSUB. We typically DJ on a pioneer DDJ-SZ controller and each of our setups includes a Shure wireless mic for toasts. We also have additional sound systems available a la carte for events with multiple locations. For instance, we out a separate system for each phase of a wedding (ceremony, cocktail hour, reception).
Included in our base rate is DJ/MC services, 4 performance hours, the QSC sound system for dancing, a Shure wireless mic, setup and tear-down times of all equipment, tax, travel within Denver county, and insurance. We try to keep things as straightforward as possible, there are no hidden fees. The only additional fees would be for travel, additional hours, sound systems, or services.
The deposit is half of the total balance and is due (along with a signed contract) in order to reserve the date. The final payment is due one month prior to the event date.
Yes and yes! We are licensed and can provide proof of insurance (or add your venue as additional insured) upon request.
We often DJ at events open to the public and would love to see you there! Please shoot us an email and we’ll let you know of a few upcoming events. But we do not invite potential clients to private events such as weddings, corporate parties, birthday parties, fundraisers, etc. We’re usually too focused on the soundtrack at those events to break away and chat anyway, and obviously wouldn’t want to infringe on our client’s privacy.
Hmmmm. Tupac when I’m angry and Biggie when I’m chillin.’
